REBEL FOOTBALL SPRING SHOWCASE FRIDAY AT 5:30 P.M.

Nineteen returning starters. You read that right. Rebel Football returns 19 starters from last year's team which showed glimpses of being the competitive program we are committed to building at UNLV. Youth - which has defined our program for the past few years - is turning into experienced talent and we're looking forward to seeing the results on the field this fall.

However, we don't have to wait until this fall to check out our Rebels. Our Spring Showcase (as we conclude spring practice) is this Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Rebel Park on the UNLV campus. Bring your own blanket and chairs and check out the annual scrimmage. Admission is free and food and drink will be available for purchase. There will also be fun activities for kids as well as autographs. The annual Spring Showcase has turned into a really fun event for Rebel fans and we look forward to seeing you out there. It's a great environment and we are anticipating beautiful weather that evening... Season tickets start as low as $90 for Rebel Football. It's a great value!

Note to Rebel Athletic Fund Members and UNLV Letterwinners: The RAF will be hosting a beverage tent at tomorrow's Rebel Football Spring Showcase. All RAF members and UNLV Letterwinners are invited to receive a refreshing beverage from the RAF tent as well as receive a ticket to tomorrow night's 7 p.m. UNLV Baseball game vs. Nevada, Reno. Beer (courtesy of Nevada Beverage), water and soda will be available. 


POPULAR UNLV ATHLETIC APPAREL SALE SATURDAY FROM 10 A.M - 2 P.M.

Rebel fans love this! For only the third time in history (and the first time in two years), fans will get the chance to purchase authentic new and game-used UNLV athletic apparel as part of the department's unique sale on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is invited to the North Gym inside the Paul McDermott Physical Education complex on campus as hundreds of items will be for sale. All proceeds from the sale benefit UNLV Athletics. The North Gym is located adjacent to Rebel Park. Be sure to get there early.


WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

There are a lot of things in college athletics that make headlines. Unfortunately, many of the important things we do don't get the most attention. We were reminded of this Wednesday prior to our baseball team's game against Arizona State when we hosted our annual BBQ to honor our senior student-athletes as well as our top performing student-athletes academically. Nearly all of these young men and women will not play sports for a living. However, because of athletics, they are receiving an education. That college education will help changes lives. It will ultimately improve family trees as many of our student-athletes become first generation college graduates... Yes, we want to win games. Yes, we want to win championships and have success in the postseason. But this past Wednesday, it was apparent we are all winners. We are making young people better. To all of our supporters - particularly our Rebel Athletic Fund members - THANK YOU. 


BASEBALL TO HOST NEVADA, RENO FOR KEY WEEKEND SERIES

We currently hold a lead over Nevada, Reno in the Governor's Series presented by NV Energy and our baseball team will host a key series this weekend against the Wolf Pack starting at 7 p.m. on Friday at Wilson Stadium (following the Rebel Football Spring Showcase at Rebel Park, which is adjacent to the baseball stadium). Saturday's game is at 2 p.m. and Sunday's is at 1 p.m. The Rebels - winners of five of their last seven games - were ranked earlier in the season and are enjoying one of their best seasons in nearly a decade. Make your plans to cheer them on this weekend. Tickets are just $8 and kids 12-and-under are always free.


CONGRATULATIONS, COACH TARK

Really, nothing more can be said. Legendary Runnin' Rebel coach Jerry Tarkanian has been a Hall of Famer for many, many years. It's nice to know it's official now.


SEASON TICKET RENEWALS MAILED FOR FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL & RAF

Just another friendly reminder... Paper renewal invoices have just been sent in the mail for football season tickets, men's basketball season tickets and Rebel Athletic Fund priority. E-mail notifications were sent in late January. The deadline for all three renewals is June 1, 2013. Season ticket holders and RAF members should receive your paper statement in the coming days. But why wait? Click here to renew online today!

New season tickets are also on sale now for both football and men's basketball. If you did not have season tickets this past year, now is your chance to jump on board. We need you all in the stands next season to support our student-athletes.


A FEW MORE TIDBITS...

UNLV Men's Golf won this past weekend's ASU Thunderbird Invitational, topping the nation's top-ranked team, California, by a stroke for the title. Sophomore Kurt Kitayama was named the Mountain West Golfer of the Week and Golfweek named UNLV its national Team of the Week... Rebel Softball pitcher Amanda Oliveto was once again named the Mountain West's Pitcher of the Week. UNLV will meet New Mexico at home this weekend. Friday's game is at 6 p.m. with a 1 p.m. first pitch time on Saturday and Sunday... After checking out the apparel sale on Saturday, make sure you swing by the Fertitta Tennis Complex as UNLV Women's Tennis takes on Nevada, Reno at 10 a.m. as part of the Governor's Series presented by NV Energy. It's a big match for the Rebels... Our Men's Swimming program added another Top-30 finish at last month's NCAA Championships... Our Women's Track Team will host the Randall Cunningham Invitational & Sheila Tarr-Smith Multis this weekend. Be sure to check out some of the action when you are on campus for the rest of the Scarlet & Gray Weekend Festivities.
