Get Your Reb On

Hello Rebels Fans,

This is the first edition of a simple email update about the many things going on with UNLV Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA). We're excited to kick-off the 2010-11 year and are looking forward to sharing many great experiences with you. We hope you enjoy these regularly scheduled updates from your athletics department.

Reorganization of ICA - We're in the process of finalizing many of our reorganization plans for UNLV ICA to better serve our student-athletes as well as our donors, alumni and supporters. We look forward to sharing these plans with you as we move forward.

Communication Updates - The UNLV ICA is committed to improving our communication both internally and externally to keep all stakeholders informed about all the great things going on with our almost 500 student-athletes. We hope you find these increased communication efforts helpful and enjoyable. Whether it is via email, our website, social media or other interesting things we have planned, we want you to know this is your athletics department.

All Student-Athlete Meeting - Early last week (Monday, Aug. 23) was one of my favorite days of the year. We had the opportunity to host a meeting at the Thomas & Mack Center with all of our student-athletes, coaches and ICA staff members. It's the one time each year we are able to get all of our student-athletes together at one time - and it is unique. They are such special young men and women. UNLV president Neal Smatresk addressed the group and we also invited Steve Schorr from Cox Communications to say a few words of impact. There are a lot of variables in this industry, but at the end of the day, we are here to serve our student-athletes and help them grow mentally, physically and socially. We will never lose sight of that. As a stakeholder in UNLV ICA, please know you can be very proud of this group of student-athletes.

Get Your Reb On - Our creative folks have been busy in the recent months developing a new, department-wide marketing campaign - "Get Your Reb On." We'll use the campaign for every sport in the upcoming seasons. We'll have a little fun with Hey Reb's mustache as well as encourage our UNLV fans to sport Rebel gear proudly and wear it often ... Every Friday is "Get Your Reb On" day in our department. We hope you will join us in getting your Reb on. Please click here to view the new spot promoting this Saturday's football game.

Countdown to Kick-Off In-Stadium Pregame Show - Our newly revamped game entertainment crew is working on producing a live in-stadium pregame show beginning 60 minutes before each home football game. Be sure to get to the stadium early for analysis, features and interviews about the upcoming Rebel game. The show will be hosted by 98.5 KLUC's Chet Buchanan, will include segments from former UNLV Lady Rebel Brittany Halberg and UNLV Athletics' Marques Pfaff, and will feature several guests from throughout the valley. We think you will enjoy getting more information about your Rebels and we're looking forward to seeing the show evolve throughout the season.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Jim Livengood

Jim Livengood
Director of Athletics
