Good Friday afternoon Rebel fans,

Here's a quick update on many of the fun things going on with your UNLV Rebels. We hope you have a GREAT weekend:

Football Faithful Help To Make a Difference

While our crowds haven't been big at our home football games early in the season, the great Rebel fans in attendance have been outstanding, while enjoying four exciting games that each went down to the final play. We want to say "Thank You" to those fans for having an impact, particularly on third down. Our third-down efficiency on defense has been outstanding this season and a lot of that has to go to our 12th Man getting into the games much more than I can remember in my time at UNLV. THANK YOU!… And speaking of third-down efficiency, how impressive was watching young quarterback Nick Sherry and the offensive line lead us to eight-straight third-down conversions down the stretch in last Saturday's victory over Air Force? The energy in the stadium made Sam Boyd the place to be in Las Vegas last Saturday night and we need more nights like that for our fans.

Newest Rebel Short Released

Apparently someone has been messing with UNLV Athletics' marketing materials around campus. Click here to watch our newest Rebel Short - "Let's Hit" - and find out more. And, be sure to make your plans to join us at Sam Boyd Stadium as UNLV Football takes on Nevada, Reno on Saturday, Oct. 13 at noon in "The Battle for the Fremont Cannon."

Men's Golf Ranked in Top 10 Again

Coach Dwaine Knight's Men's Golf program is back on the national scene. The team is ranked eighth in the country in the first Golfstat team rankings of the season, which were released this week. The Rebels opened the 2012-13 season with a second-place finish at the Gene Miranda Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., earlier this month, and then placed third at the prestigious PING/Golfweek Preview Invitational just outside of Atlanta, Ga., on Tuesday.

Rebels Hoffman, Moore Inducted Into LV Golf HOF This Weekend

Two Rebel golfing greats and current PGA Tour players will be inducted into the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame this weekend. Charley Hoffman, who was part of UNLV's 1998 NCAA Championship team, and Ryan Moore, the 2004 individual NCAA Champion, are part of this year's class. Moore's 2004 season - which also included him winning the U.S. Amateur - is widely regarding as the greatest year in the history of amateur golf. You can't seem to watch a PGA Tour event without seeing someone who is living the Scarlet. Gray. Every Day. And, we have a feeling we have a few more future PGA Tour professionals in our program right now.

Mark Your Calendars to "Run As One" - Oct. 18

Speaking of UNLV programs on the national scene, we will present the Runnin' Rebel Scarlet/Gray Showcase on Thursday, Oct. 18 at the Thomas & Mack Center. The free event will feature the annual Scarlet & Gray scrimmage, a slam dunk contest and the annual Legends game. Festivities for kids will begin outside at 5 p.m. while the doors to the T&M will open at 6 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m. Fans are invited to come on the court following the event to meet the players for autographs and photos. Coach Dave Rice and his staff really want to grow this event into a great annual showcase of the program and a kick-off to the season so we hope you'll make your plans to join us.

Extra Pass Club Supports Men's Basketball

We had a tremendous event last night at the Mendenhall Center for Runnin' Rebel Extra Pass Club members with the Runnin' Rebel coaching staff and players. The Extra Pass Club is designed to support men's basketball and provide resources for such things as the recent trip to Canada, charter flights, special equipment/academic needs and more. The Rebel Athletic Fund, headed by Sr. Associate Athletics Director Julio Freire, has done an amazing job growing the Extra Pass Club in such a short time. If you are interested in becoming part of this special new Club and supporting men's basketball, please call the RAF at (702) 895-1533 or email Julio.Freire@unlv.edu

UNLV Gametime With Bobby Hauck Every Sunday Night

"UNLV Gametime" can be seen Sunday nights on KLAS TV-8 (CBS) each week. Regularly running at 11:30 p.m. PT, the show features sports director Chris Maathuis and Rebel Football head coach Bobby Hauck for an entertaining half-hour of game reviews, previews and a weekly visit by a Rebel player. The show will also air earlier in the day on Cox Cable channel 128 at 5:30 p.m. PT. The shows are also archived on UNLVRebels.com.

Scarlet. PINK. Every Day.

As a kickoff for Breast Cancer Awareness on Monday, Oct. 1, the Las Vegas Review-Journal will be printing on pink newsprint for the third year in a row.  As in years past, local celebrities will help sell the paper at select locations on that day. Lady Rebel head coach Kathy Olivier is scheduled to be at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf across from UNLV from 11-11:30 a.m., while Runnin' Rebel head coach Dave Rice will be there from 11:30 a.m. to noon. We hope you'll stop by Monday to see them and support the effort.

Former UNLV student-athletes are invited to be a part of the Letterwinners Club Football Tailgates prior to our next two home football games (Oct. 13 vs. Nevada, Reno & Nov. 3 vs. New Mexico - Homecoming). New Weekly E-mail For Rebel Fans

As you may have noticed, we are delivering a new weekly email entitled, "It's a Great Time To Be a Rebel." We hope you like it. It is quick and to the point giving short updates about our programs and our student-athletes while providing you links for more information. This week, we featured things such as Women's Soccer's program-best winning streak, Volleyball moving to 2-0 in conference and Women's Tennis having an amazing opening tournament. It's something new and simple we hope you will enjoy as you live the Scarlet. Gray. Every Day.

Thank you for the continued support of our UNLV student-athletes.

For the Rebels,

Jim Livengood
