Get Your Reb On

Hello Rebels Fans,

Hope you are feeling the Madness of March like we are here with the Rebels. Linda and I absolutely love this time of year. In fact, Linda may love it even more than I do. She is a college basketball nut and enjoys all of the media coverage. In addition to the Runnin’ Rebels becoming a mainstay in the NCAA Tournament again, there are many things going on with UNLV Athletics that should make fans proud. It’s definitely a GREAT time to be a Rebel!

Rebel Golf wins Collegiate Masters, ranked No. 7 in nation

The UNLV men's golf team moved up to No. 7 in the nation this week with a come-from-behind win at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters over the weekend. Sophomore Blake Biddle captured his first individual title in helping the Rebels to capture their fifth team win in seven tournaments this season… Of the six teams currently ranked ahead of UNLV, five of the teams (Texas, Alabama, UCLA, Cal and USC) participated in the tournament the Rebels won last week. Coach Dwaine Knight is feeling good about the potential of his program - and so are we!

Big weekend for Rebel Baseball vs. powerful TCU

While many UNLV fans are focusing on the Runnin' Rebels in the NCAA Tournament this week, the Rebel Baseball team is squaring off against reigning Mountain West champion TCU at Wilson Stadium this Friday-Sunday. The Horned Frogs were picked to finish first in the MW this season while UNLV was picked second. It should be some great college baseball action out at the stadium this weekend and we hope you can make it out. (Friday, 6 p.m.; Saturday, 2 p.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m.) Adults $8, kids 12 and under are always free.

Lady Rebels advance to WNIT

Kathy Olivier's Lady Rebel team will travel to face St. Mary's in the first round of the WNIT on Thursday night. The game will be broadcast live in Las Vegas on KSHP 1400 AM at 7 p.m. UNLV ended the regular season with an impressive 22-9 mark and is playing in post-season for the first time since 2006.

Fans invited out to view Rebel Football spring practices

Rebel Football opened up spring practice this past Monday to begin a 15-session schedule that culminates with the Spring Showcase to be held on campus on Friday, April 20 at 5 p.m. All practices are open to the public and will occur every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Bill "Wildcat" Morris Rebel Park from 3:45-6 p.m. (excluding the week of April 2-6 and dates/times are subject to change). We invite you to come out - and bring the family - and witness first hand how hard these young men are working to turn this program around. They want it badly - and it will happen. Contact UNLV Athletics' Director of Community Relations Bridget Byrne at (702) 895-1633 to schedule a group visit. It's a unique experience for all involved.

How special has this Runnin' Rebel season been?

During coach Dave Rice's first season at the helm, the Runnin' Rebels were ranked for 13 weeks. Ranked as high as No. 11. Had 20 wins before February. Finished second in the nation in assists at 18.2 per game. Captured UNLV's highest seed in the NCAA Tournament since 1991. And that's just a few of the highlights. Check out this video we debuted at the Selection Sunday viewing party. It's been a special year - and we still have work to do and things to accomplish! Let's Run.

The Rebellion's impact

I just wanted to take a moment to recognize the impact the student section - The Rebellion - has had on the Runnin' Rebel program. The passion and creativity of the students moved the atmosphere at the Thomas & Mack Center to another level - which is near the VERY TOP in college basketball. The Rebellion was even trend-setting this season with student sections such as Ohio State and Marquette copying the idea of the original Mozilla - the monster sign featuring the head, torso and arms of All-Conference forward Mike Moser, which debuted to a national audience during the San Diego State game. To all of the students and those who supported the effort - THANK YOU for all you have done for UNLV.

Summer tour for Runnin' Rebel basketball

Plans are being finalized for this summer's Runnin' Rebel basketball tour and details will be announced soon for fans. Every four years, college basketball programs are eligible for an international tour during the summer. Eight years ago, UNLV went to Canada. Four years ago, UNLV toured Australia.

Three Rebel swimmers head to nationals

One member of the UNLV men's squad and two from the women's will be representing the Rebels at the 2012 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships this week. Junior All-American Cody Roberts will be battling for a NCAA title in the 100 fly as well as the 50 fly. Sophomore Katelyne Herrington will compete in the women's 100 fly while sophomore Rachel Dixon will compete in the 50 & 100 free and the 100 back.

Rebel Girls to put on summer workshops
