Get Your Reb On

Hello Rebels Fans,

There's a great buzz in town as we get ready for the big men's basketball showdown vs. No. 13/14 San Diego State this Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center. There are a lot of fun things going on this weekend with your Rebels and we wanted to get this update out to you. Hope you enjoy and I'm sure you'll agree, "It's a GREAT time to be Rebel!"

Mayor Goodman proclaims Friday "UNLV Rebel Red Day"

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman has officially proclaimed this Friday "UNLV Rebel Red Day" and is encouraging all citizens to show support for the Runnin' Rebels - in preparation for Saturday's big game - by wearing red... A special thank you to 98.5 FM's Chet Buchanan and the Morning Zoo for helping to spread the UNLV pride with this effort. As many of you know, Chet has been our on-court emcee for Runnin' Rebel basketball for the past six years and he LOVES this program.

Dave Rice Radio Show tonight at Orleans Arena to be filmed by CBS crew

A CBS film crew is in town this week filming a show called "Basketball Confidential." We are one of four schools they are featuring this year. The others are Ohio State, Missouri and Baylor. It will be a 30-minute behind the scenes show focusing on the culture and tradition of the program. It is scheduled to air in early March on CBS Sports Network and the material will also be used on CBS Sports/TNT during the NCAA Tournament... The film crew is scheduled to be at the Orleans Hotel tonight from 7-8 p.m. PT during coach Dave Rice's weekly radio show. We hope to pack the room with Runnin' Rebel fans for the filming. If you can't make it out, you can catch the show on ESPN Radio 1100 AM and 98.9 FM.

1987 Final Four team honored at halftime this Saturday

We'll be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 1987 Final Four Runnin' Rebel squad at halftime of Saturday's men's basketball game. Led by Armon Gilliam (who recently passed away), Freddie Banks and Mark Wade, that special UNLV squad finished the season 37-2 and propelled Runnin' Rebel basketball into elite status helping to set the stage for the 1990 National Championship run. We're looking forward to seeing some familiar faces back on the court.

Pregame Runnin' Rebel FanZone this Saturday starting at 11 a.m.

With the large and enthusiastic crowd anticipated for Saturday's Runnin' Rebel game vs. San Diego State, fans are urged to get to the Thomas & Mack Center early and enjoy the Runnin' Rebel FanZone, which will be set up on the plaza in front of the arena. There will be games for kids, sign-making opportunities, a Rebel Red hair-coloring station and booths featuring UNLV's corporate sponsors offering giveaways and coupons to fans. The FanZone will open at 11 a.m. with doors to the Thomas & Mack Center opening at noon, one hour prior to tip-off of the 1 p.m. game.

It will be a $2 Tuesday with all tickets just $2 as well as hot dogs, sodas and beers for just $2. There is nothing like Opening Night at the ballpark. Hope to see you there.

And to complete your Rebel weekend...
