Hello Rebel fans,
What a week it has been! We are so excited to be heading to a bowl game for the first time in 13 years and our first outside of Las Vegas since 1984. Coach Hauck, his staff and our student-athletes have worked so hard and the reward of playing on New Year's Day in the Heart of Dallas Bowl is something that we are very proud of.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING

Last week I was named the permanent athletics director for UNLV. I am honored to serve this great university and want to thank the Board of Regents for the tremendous support that they have given to me and to our athletics department. I also want to thank our president, Neal Smatresk, for this humbling opportunity to work on behalf of our 450 student-athletes, our talented head coaches and our hard-working staff. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but I am looking forward to making a difference at my alma mater in my hometown.

IN THE COMMUNITY
As an athletics department we try to be in the community as much as we can and with the holidays upon us it is a special time of the year to be able to help those less fortunate. Some recent events we have been a part of include: the Rebel Reading Challenge kickoff at the Thomas & Mack Center, which included 6,500 kids from over 30 local elementary schools, the women's basketball team and Hey Reb participated in the Tivoli Village Santa Parade, and the Santa Clothes Event was held here on campus with Rotary Clubs of Southern Nevada, where we hosted 320 underprivileged kids from local Boys and Girls clubs, the Salvation Army and two elementary schools. We also had student-athletes volunteering with the Great Santa Run and many of our teams have been visiting children in local hospitals. Click on the photo below to see a gallery from some of these events.
BASKETBALL BACK IN TOWN NEXT WEEK
The Runnin' Rebels and Lady Rebels are finishing up their "Rodeo" road trips this weekend. The men's basketball team will play at Southern Utah tomorrow, while the women's team will be at Loyola Marymount. The Runnin' Rebels are back at the Thomas & Mack Center next week on Wednesday and Friday (Dec. 18 & 20) vs. Radford and Sacred Heart, respectively, in the preliminary rounds of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic. They will then head over to the Orleans Arena on Dec. 22-23 vs. Santa Clara, and Mississippi State or South Florida. Tickets for the TMC games may be purchased here, while tickets for games at Orleans Arena may be purchased here. The Lady Rebels will host the Duel in the Desert at Cox Pavilion, Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 19-21, which features Clemson, Creighton and Oregon State. Tickets for that may be purchased here.
